Every once in a while the stars align and something magical happens. The Sleeper is one of those moments — 50,000 years in the making! It all started on a hillside in New Zealand, where an ancient tsunami covered gargantuan trees in a mudslide. Buried in the earth, the wood was preserved and never petrified. It is literally the oldest workable wood known on the planet. Fifty millennia of minerals seeping into the fibers of the wood have created an indescribably beautiful tone. The overtones of this six-string have been compared to sounding like “two guitars in one, with the shimmer of a 12 string.”
The Sleeper has become a favorite in the studio. It’s been played and loved by John Willis, one of the most recorded guitarists in history, and is heard on several studio albums. One artist, Jimmy Stewart, found inspiration in this guitar. He wrote a song then drove a thousand miles to play it on The Sleeper. A music video was made. It’s called “The Gift of Time.”
The Sleeper is now being used in recording a major Broadway musical, adding to its prominence. Rask Guitars is retaining ownership of this one-in-a-million guitar. It can be made available on loan for high profile events or projects. Contact us for inquiries and availability.
